A historic sandwich shop and deli on Kentucky's Old Frankfort Pike, open since 2003.
Wallace Station Deli and Bakery is a sandwich shop and deli opened in 2003 by Chris and Ouita Michel, housed in a structure built at the turn of the 20th century that once served as a train depot, general store, gas station, and post office. The menu centers on hot and cold sandwiches built on white, whole wheat, or rye bread, alongside burgers, fried baskets, soups, salads, and scratch-made dressings. Nightly specials, available after 5pm, rotate through dishes such as fried chicken, meatloaf, and rotating pork, beef, and fish preparations. The Country Ham and Pimento Cheese sandwich has been featured on Food Network's "The Best Thing I Ever Ate," and Guy Fieri named the Big Brown Burger one of his top five burgers. Wallace Station also offers catering and online ordering. Learn more on their About Page.
Every sandwich is built on bread baked by the Midway Bakery using flour milled at nearby Weisenberger Mill, a relationship the restaurant traces back generations. Burgers are made with local beef, sourced in partnership with Stone Cross Farm in Taylorsville, Kentucky. The fried catfish is KY Proud-labeled catfish, and fried items are rolled in seasoned Weisenberger Mill flour. The Wallace Cubano features slow-cooked KY Proud pork. The black bean burger is house-made.
