Ice Cream Shop
Closed
Farm-made ice cream from a three-generation Holstein dairy farm in Delaware.
Vanderwende Farm Creamery is a family-owned ice cream shop rooted in a working dairy farm that has operated since William and Ellen Vanderwende purchased the property in 1954. The farm spans close to 4,000 acres and milks more than 225 registered Holstein cows, with Jerseys and a few Brown Swiss also in the herd. Ice cream is made in small batches on-site and served in cups, cones, or homemade waffle cones. The menu also includes milkshakes, floats, sundaes, banana splits, pints, quarts, and ice cream cakes. Signature flavors run year-round alongside a rotating lineup of seasonal varieties, and sugar-free and dairy-free options are kept available across locations. Beyond the home shop in Bridgeville, Vanderwende operates additional seasonal locations and an ice cream truck available for private events. Learn more on their About Page.
Vanderwende Farm Creamery milks its herd twice a day and states that its cows are not given BST (Bovine Somatotropin) shots. The farm uses cover crop and nutrient management programs as part of its environmental stewardship practices. Ice cream is made in small batches at the creamery using milk from the farm's own herd.
