Grassfed lamb, wool yarn, lambskins, and botanically-dyed goods from a Loess Hills sheep farm.
Tuuli Farm LLC is a small sheep farm in the Loess Hills of Western Iowa, founded and run by shepherd Stennie Nelson. The farm raises a Romney/Finn/Corriedale-cross flock and offers grassfed lamb, 100% wool yarn, bark-tanned lambskins, and botanically-dyed yarn and silk scarves. Grassfed lamb is sold by the half or whole each fall through a custom processing arrangement. Undyed wool yarn highlights the natural color range of the flock, while botanically-dyed goods are made using dye plants that Nelson grows or forages. Lambskins and dyed goods are available in person at markets or by appointment. The farm name "Tuuli," meaning "wind" in Finnish, reflects the windswept Loess Hills landscape it now calls home. Learn more on their About Page.
Tuuli Farm lambs graze alongside their mothers and are moved to a new paddock every few days. Depending on pasture conditions, they may also receive grass or alfalfa hay. The farm's wool yarn is 100% wool from its own Romney/Finn/Corriedale-cross flock, and undyed products highlight the sheep's natural colors. Lambskins are bark-tanned. Botanically-dyed goods are made using dye plants that the farmer grows or forages directly, including Japanese indigo and goldenrod.
