An 89-acre fruit, vegetable, and cane syrup farm in eastern Leon County growing turmeric, ginger, citrus, greens, and heirloom corn.
Turkey Hill Farm is an 89-acre working farm in eastern Leon County, run by Louise Divine and Herman Holley. The farm has been building soil and growing fruits and vegetables since 1999. It specializes in turmeric and ginger alongside a wide range of produce: Satsumas, oranges, kumquats, figs, grapes, potatoes, scallions, lettuces, collards, chard, tomatoes, herbs, field peas, pole beans, and heirloom Gourdseed Corn for grits and meal. Each fall, the farm makes cane syrup from its own sugarcane. Turkey Hill Farm sells through farmers markets, local online ordering platforms, and select local restaurants, and also offers vegetable starts for home gardeners.
Turkey Hill Farm grows according to national organic program standards and uses no synthetic pesticides. Fertility comes primarily from compost made on the farm using fish waste, along with cover crops. The farm practices agroforestry and silvaculture, growing some crops under planted pines. Building healthy soil is the farm's stated foundation and priority.
