Certified organic, grass-fed and grass-finished beef raised on a small family ranch in North Idaho since 2000.
The Selkirk Ranch is a small family operation in Sandpoint, Idaho, raising Red Angus cattle and selling 100% organic, grass-fed, grass-finished beef. The ranch operates a closed herd, meaning no outside cattle or calves are introduced, using its own bulls to develop herd genetics. Beef is dry-aged up to 14 days before processing and sold in bulk: ground beef by the box, or quarters, halves, and whole beefs. Cuts include tenderloin, porterhouse, top sirloin, rib steak, chuck steaks, roasts, and organ meats. Orders are available for local pickup, and the ranch contacts customers directly when beef becomes available each season.
The Selkirk Ranch has been certified organic by the Idaho Department of Agriculture since 2002 (Certification #9-398) and is USDA-inspected. Cattle are raised entirely on grass and legumes with no grain, no antibiotics, no growth hormones, no herbicides, no pesticides, and no synthetic fertilizers. The herd grazes on open pasture and is grass-finished. Because the animals are grass-fed, they take more than two years from calf to slaughter weight. The ranch maintains a closed herd to minimize disease risk and sources any new bulls from local breeders it knows. Beef is commercially frozen after cutting and packaged in double-wrapped paper, with Cryovac vacuum-seal available as an option. Processing takes place at a USDA-inspected facility without co-mingling with other meats.
