Small family farm offering vegetables, pastured chicken, and eggs through a CSA and farmers markets.
The Cornucopia Farm and CSA is a small family farm in Northwest Iowa, started by John and Janna Wesselius. What began as home gardening in 1986 grew into a working farm after the purchase of rural property in 2003, expanding from a half acre in 2005 to nearly 9 acres by 2022. The farm grows a wide range of vegetables and raises pastured chickens and eggs. Customers can access the farm's products through a seasonal CSA subscription box, an online farm store, or in person at farmers markets in Sioux Center, Sioux City, and Sioux Falls. The farm participates in the Iowa Farmers' Market Nutrition Program, accepting WIC and Senior FMNP coupons at the Sioux Center and Sioux City markets.
The Cornucopia uses organic methods to grow its vegetables and raise pastured poultry and eggs. Growing practices include crop rotation, cover cropping, compost application, and companion cropping to deter pests without synthetic inputs. Broiler chicks start in a brooder with clean wood shavings, then move into mobile structures that rotate to fresh grass twice per day, combining coop protection with free-range access. The chickens are fed a non-GMO corn ration and forage for bugs and grubs on pasture.
