Family-owned fish market and seafood distributor on Cape Cod, open for over 40 years.
The Clam Man is a family-owned fishmonger and seafood distributor founded by Matt Rocheleau, who grew up digging clams from Falmouth's Great Pond. The business opened its Falmouth retail market in 1993 and has since grown into a full-scale operation serving both retail customers and wholesale accounts. Marc Rocheleau, the founders' son, now leads operations as the business moves into its second generation. The Clam Man operates two upscale retail fish markets and supplies over 200 restaurants, caterers, schools, healthcare facilities, and country clubs across Cape Cod and up the South Shore. It also runs a buying station on Martha's Vineyard for Cape Cod Bay scallops out of Edgartown, and ships locally harvested shellfish to wholesalers across the country. Learn more on their About Page.
The Clam Man tags its products with sourcing and handling protocols that shoppers can filter by. The "Local" designation covers seafood caught or harvested from the waters of Cape Cod, including Nantucket Sound, Vineyard Sound, and nearby coastal areas. "Dayboat" identifies fish brought back to shore the same day it is caught by vessels that do not stay overnight at sea. "Wild-caught" designates fish and shellfish harvested from natural habitats rather than aquaculture environments. Some shrimp is labeled "chemical-free" (no artificial preservatives or synthetic additives) and "phosphate-free" (not treated with phosphates used to retain moisture or extend shelf life). The business also prepares a range of in-house items it labels "Homemade."
