Pasture-raised California Berkshire pork and raw honey from a family-run regenerative ranch in the Sierra foothills.
Sweet Water Farm & Ranch Co. is a family-operated ranch founded in 2017 by Michael, Sam, and Jack Santry, a father-and-sons team working 40 acres in the Sierra foothills near Columbia, California. Three generations of the Santry family live on-site, caring for pigs, horses, goats, and chickens. The ranch specializes in California Berkshire, a heritage pork breed known for rich marbling and deep flavor, and also offers raw, unfiltered honey from its own beehives. Products are available online and at the Sonora Farmers Market, with large primal cuts available on special order. The food the family raises is, by their own account, the food they feed themselves. Sweet Water Farm & Ranch Co. raises its California Berkshire hogs on open pastures and in oak-studded woodlands, where they roam freely and forage for acorns. The ranch uses no hormones, no antibiotics, and no GMOs. Each spring the farm cultivates heirloom corn, carrots, squash, pumpkins, onions, and garlic to provide chemical-free fodder for the animals. Hickory-smoked and cured products are made without artificial preservatives or synthetic nitrates, using only celery powder, cherry powder, brown sugar, water, and sea salt. The ranch practices regenerative agriculture through rotational grazing and land stewardship aimed at building soil health and supporting biodiversity. Beehives on the property support pollination across the ranch's pastures and crops.
