Family-run indoor microgreens farm growing in soil with no pesticides, delivering to 150+ Midwest grocery stores and restaurant kitchens.
Spira Farms is a family-run indoor microgreens farm founded at the end of 2020, starting from a single basement shelf and growing into a 5,000 square foot warehouse in Bolingbrook. The farm grows its microgreens in real soil under lights, with no pesticides, and harvests and delivers them the same day. Spira supplies 150+ grocery stores across Illinois and Wisconsin, as well as Chicago-area restaurant kitchens. The business is family-operated and grew out of a personal chapter in the founding family's life, with that story shaping the farm's focus on growing practices. Spira Farms greens have been featured on Season 3 of the TV series The Bear. Learn more on their About Page.
Spira Farms grows all of its microgreens indoors, in real soil, under lights, with no pesticides and no synthetic fertilizer. Greens are harvested by hand and locally delivered the same day they are cut. The farm holds USDA Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification, which audits how its greens are grown, harvested, and packed. All grow waste is returned to use on the farm. Packaging is made from corn-based PLA, with no petroleum plastic. The farm developed its own software to manage growing operations and uses machinery to handle labor-intensive tasks.
