SkyLines Farm is a 65-acre livestock farm in northern Idaho, operated by Melissa Lines since 1992. The farm began with Romney and Romney-cross sheep and expanded into grassfed beef and pastured heritage-breed pigs, eventually selling the sheep flock in 2013 to focus on beef and pigs. Beef and pigs are harvested in early fall and sell out each season, so reservations are taken in advance. Beyond meat production, SkyLines Farm offers small-farm consulting and customized one-on-one farm immersions for people learning to raise livestock using organic and sustainable methods. SkyLines Farm has raised livestock using organic and sustainable methods since 1992, with avoiding chemicals as a guiding principle across animal care, pasture management, and hay production. Beef cattle are 100% grassfed and grassfinished, grazing the farm's managed pastures throughout the summer. Animals receive mineral supplements such as kelp and trace mineral salt, and garlic is used for parasite control in place of chemical wormers. The farm practices intensive rotational grazing, moving animals through pastures in short intervals so each section can rest and regrow, with portable electric fencing making the system possible. Great Pyrenees dogs and a donkey serve as livestock guardians to manage predators without lethal means. Pigs are pastured and also given access to rooting lots. The farm does not use antibiotics, hormones, or pesticides on its animals.
