Certified Naturally Grown vegetable farm with a self-serve farm stand and farmers market presence in Moscow, ID
Deep Roots Farm is a small diversified farm operated by Greg Freistadt and Marci Miller, growing vegetables and small fruits within Moscow city limits. Produce is sold directly to customers through a self-serve farm stand open seven days a week and at the Moscow Farmers Market on Saturdays during spring. The farm also supplies local restaurants including Maialina, FoodOlogy, and Nectar. The farm stand carries additional locally sourced goods such as cheese, kombucha, grain flours, and coffee from regional producers. Deep Roots Farm holds Certified Naturally Grown status and offers workshops on small-scale farming for groups.
Deep Roots Farm uses only natural methods and no synthetic chemicals or fertilizers on its crops or property. The farm practices intensive planting rotation to promote plant health and increase production on a small land base, and plants cover crops to feed the soil and attract beneficial insects. Soil fertility is built with well-rotted horse and alpaca manure and compost. Locally grown and saved seeds are used when possible. When pest control is needed, only OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) listed, plant- or organism-based products are used, and broad-spectrum sprays are avoided to protect beneficial insects. The farm maintains dedicated open habitat for wild birds, pollinators, and other wildlife. The business is Certified Naturally Grown.
