Certified Organic blueberry farm offering u-pick and fresh-harvested berries from the Lassen foothills.
Sierra Cascade Farm is a family-owned and operated blueberry farm sitting on 61 acres in the Lassen foothills near the convergence of the Northern Sierra Nevada mountains and the Southern Cascade Range. John and Armen Carlon have been farming the property since 1989, growing 9 acres of blueberries across roughly 11,000 plants. The farm grows heirloom varieties reflective of traditional Pacific Northwest types, selected for flavor and suited to the local climate. Customers can pick their own fruit during the harvest season, which typically begins around late May or early June. Frozen berries are also available for local delivery outside of the fresh harvest window. The farm sells at certified farmers markets, where loyal customers return season after season. Sierra Cascade Farm has been Certified Organic by CCOF since 1993, making it one of the first certified organic blueberry farms in California. The farm's approach centers on replacing off-farm inputs with ecosystem services, integrating the cultivated land into the surrounding native biological community. The growing philosophy aims to bring farm practices into alignment with natural cycles of water, nitrogen, and carbon. Solar energy powers the irrigation pumps. Bumble bees assist with pollination, and native wildlife including Cooper's hawks and gophers play active roles in farm management. Native plants are encouraged to establish across the property. Outside of electricity, fuel for equipment, and packaging, the farm operates as largely self-sustaining.
