Overview
Regenerative CSA farm offering pasture-raised vegetables, eggs, lamb, duck, and poultry
Shire Regenerative Farm operates a CSA Buying Club through which members receive weekly vegetable and herb shares, eggs, and seasonal meat including lamb, whole poultry, and heritage duck. Foods are selected for nutrient density, including varieties chosen for high levels of phytonutrients, beta carotene, omega-3s, and vitamins. Members can pick up shares at a downtown Rock Island location or directly at the farm in Coal Valley. Membership entitles families to scheduled on-farm visits, and the farm supports a recipe and cooking guidance resource for members. Through its Get 1 Give .1 program, the farm donates a portion of its harvest to Heart of Hope Outreach, which delivers food to disabled and elderly people in the Quad Cities. Shire Regenerative Farm uses only naturally occurring substances and no toxic chemicals, vaccines, or genetically modified or bioengineered ingredients. Naturally occurring microbes and enzymes are left intact in its foods. Animals are raised on pasture with rotational grazing, which the farm says exceeds even Certified Humane Pasture Raised standards. For example, its Cayuga heritage ducks are pastured on over 1,200 square feet per bird per year and fed a beyond-organic-fermented feed mix of more than 80 all-organic ingredients with no soy. Pasture is maintained with a minimum of 95% live forage cover. Animals are harvested on-farm with no road transport to minimize stress. The farm's approach is explicitly regenerative, meaning practices are designed to continuously improve the health of soil, plants, animals, and people rather than simply sustain current conditions. Nutritional density lab testing is conducted on its foods.
