Shepherd's Valley is a family-owned 90-acre diversified farm in the Flint Hills of east-central Kansas, and one of the oldest CSA farms in the state. The farm has been providing wholesome, chemical-free food for over 40 years. It offers three seasonal CSA share programs (Spring, Summer, and Fall), with weekly boxes of organically grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs delivered to pickup points in Emporia, Council Grove, Manhattan, and Strong City. Beyond CSA shares, Shepherd's Valley raises pastured poultry, Corriedale lamb, and pastured eggs, and keeps bees for raw honey and bee pollen. The farm also produces jams and jellies, mushrooms, and seeds and transplants. Non-shareholders can purchase farm products as well, and farm tours are available by arrangement.
Shepherd's Valley follows organic, regenerative, and sustainable principles across all aspects of its farming operation, using chemical-free, biologically sound methods. Its poultry, including broilers, layer hens, and turkeys, are raised on pasture and fed certified organic grains with trace mineral supplements. No soy, antibiotics, hormones, vaccinations, pesticides, or medicated feeds are used in poultry production. Corriedale lambs are raised entirely on pasture and hay with no added inputs. The farm's grass-fed beef and pastured pork are sourced from other Kansas-area producers. CSA share bonuses include honey, pastured eggs, and jams, and shareholders can add a weekly egg option to their shares.
