Stone-ground Heritage Turkey Red Wheat flour and milled grain products from a historic Kansas grist mill.
Hoffman Grist Mill is a working flour mill situated next to the Smoky Hill River in Enterprise, Kansas, re-established in 2016 on the site where Christian Hoffman built his original mill in 1869. The mill stone-grinds Heritage Turkey Red Wheat, a heritage grain originally brought to the United States by Mennonite immigrants in 1870, producing whole wheat flour, bolted flour, farina, and wheat berries. Corn meal and grits, milled from non-GMO corn, are also available. Beyond milled products, the mill carries meat products, Wisconsin cheese, honey, and other goods. Visitors can tour the mill and shop on-site during regular store hours, and most products can be ordered for shipment. Learn more on their About Page.
All wheat products are stone-ground from Heritage Turkey Red Wheat. The flour is unbleached and produced without pesticides or preservatives. Corn products are non-GMO. The mill uses equipment true to the era it honors: the bolter (sifter) dates to 1890, and the primary grain cleaners are 80 to 100 years old. Whole wheat flour is made from 100% of the wheat berry. Bolted flour is whole grain flour with only the coarsest bran particles sifted out. The grinding stones are either original or recently reproduced to match historical practice.
