Family farm raising pastured poultry, pasture-raised eggs, and forest-raised pork in South Georgia.
Schmoe Farm is a small, family-operated farm run by Christian and Drew Schmoe on the Georgia-Florida line. The farm raises pastured poultry, pasture-raised eggs, and forest-raised pork, and also carries grass-finished beef sourced from farm partners. The Schmoes started their first laying flock in 2016 after relocating from New York, with a goal of raising animals humanely and sustainably. Heritage breeds on the farm include Gloucestershire Old Spot, Berkshire, and Duroc hogs. Products are available for purchase online, with local delivery and regional shipping options, as well as weekly and monthly farm box subscriptions. Learn more on their About Page.
Laying hens at Schmoe Farm are completely free-range on pasture, where they forage for bugs and plants. Meat birds are raised in mobile, outdoor hoop coops that are moved every day onto fresh pasture, a practice the farm describes as regenerative agriculture: spreading manure across pasture to build soil fertility. Heritage hogs roam freely through the woods, foraging for acorns, nuts, mushrooms, and other plant matter. The farm states that its forest-raised pork is raised with no antibiotics or hormones and is all-natural fed. Chickens are supplemented with a locally-sourced, non-GMO feed that contains no antibiotics, hormones, artificial additives, preservatives, herbicides, or pesticides. Livestock guardian dogs are used to protect the laying flock.
