Oceanfront New England-style seafood restaurant and oyster bar serving lobster rolls, clam chowder, and sustainably sourced seafood.
Sam's Chowder House, opened in October 2006 by co-founders Paul and Julie Shenkman, is a seafood restaurant and oyster bar perched above the Pacific Ocean and Pillar Point Harbor. The menu centers on New England-style seafood: Maine lobster, fresh local crab, clam chowder, lobster rolls, oysters and clams from the raw bar, fish and chips, cioppino, and seasonal catch such as salmon and halibut. Executive Chef and Partner Lewis Rossman leads the kitchen with a focus on sustainable, fresh, and seasonal ingredients. The restaurant has received recognition from Food & Wine, the Food Network, NBC's Today Show, San Francisco Chronicle's SFGATE, and Zagat, among others. Indoor and outdoor oceanfront dining, private dining spaces, weddings, and takeout are available. Sam's ChowderMobile brings its seafood to Bay Area locations and private events. Sam's Chowder House serves sustainably sourced seafood following the guidelines of the Monterey Bay Aquarium whenever possible and practical. The restaurant sources hormone-free and antibiotic-free meats, and works closely with local farmers to source products locally when possible. Sam's is a certified member of the Surfrider Foundation's Ocean-Friendly Restaurants Program. Straws are made entirely from plants rather than petroleum and meet international standards for compostability. To-go packaging is made from 100% biodegradable and compostable materials.
