Rising C Ranches is a family citrus farm growing specialty fruit since 1988. It operates under the Ripe to You® brand, with Fruition Sales as its exclusive packer and marketer. Founded by Eric and Kim Christensen, the farm grows more than 50 citrus varieties, from Heirloom Navel and Cara Cara oranges to Satsuma and Gold Nugget mandarins, plus rare varieties such as Buddha's Hand Citron, Mandarinquat, Tarocco Blood Orange, and Bergamot. It also partners with like-minded associate growers who share its philosophy, broadening the fruit available to customers. Hand labor is still used from harvest through packing, and the farm has adopted brix sorting and mechanical loading and bagging techniques. Rising C Ranches has followed a sustainable farming approach since purchasing its first ranch in 1988, with a focus on reducing chemical inputs in the citrus groves. Rather than spraying at the first sign of insects, the farm waits and monitors, allowing predatory mites and beneficial insects to naturally control citrus pests and maintain a balanced grove ecosystem. This approach has reduced the farm's reliance on chemical treatments. The farm also practices patience at harvest, waiting until fruit reaches optimum flavor and sugar content rather than picking at the first sign of maturity. This extended hang time increases risk from weather and market conditions but results in fruit with greater flavor and shelf life. The farm describes this approach as a slow food concept, and extends its sustainability practices to its grower partners.
