Certified organic stone fruit farm growing 80+ varieties of tree-ripened peaches, nectarines, apricots, plums, and pluots.
Nicholas Boldt Farms is a small, certified organic stone fruit operation in Reedley, California, run by Nick Boldt, a fifth-generation farmer. Nick purchased the farm in 2018 from orchard master Fitz Kelly, continuing a legacy that larger conventional operations had threatened to end. The farm grows more than 80 varieties of peaches, nectarines, apricots, plums, apricots, and pluots, including many rarely found elsewhere, selected for flavor rather than shelf life or yield. Fruit is picked at peak ripeness, assessed for color, texture, fragrance, and taste before harvest. Nicholas Boldt Farms supplies specialty grocers and restaurants, including outlets in New York, Boston, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Nicholas Boldt Farms is certified organic by CCOF under the USDA National Organic Program, and also holds Real Organic Project certification. The farm does not use synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or GMOs, relying instead on natural pest and disease management. Integrated pest management practices include beneficial insect release, trap crops, and mechanical controls. Soil health is maintained through cover cropping, composting, and techniques designed to build organic matter and fertility. Water conservation is addressed through drip irrigation, mulching, and soil moisture monitoring. The farm maintains owl boxes, beehives, and habitat for beneficial insects, birds, and wildlife to support natural pollination and reduce reliance on synthetic inputs. Solar energy powers a significant portion of farm operations, and Nick has built and uses an electric tractor to reduce carbon emissions.
