Organic pecan farm growing, harvesting, and shelling pecans without synthetic chemicals.
Rio Grande Organics opened in 2003 and has grown into what it describes as the largest organic pecan farm in North America. The farm tends 33,000 mature pecan trees along the sandy banks of the Rio Grande River and the Nueces River in South Texas. Each autumn, pecans are harvested, cracked, and sorted into a range of sizes from halves to pieces, then packaged in 30-pound boxes and held in cold storage. Rio Grande Organics works with a third-party certifying agency to verify that its materials and methods meet the USDA National Organic Program (NOP) standards. The farm sells wholesale and accepts quote requests directly.
Rio Grande Organics uses only organic growing methods, with no synthetic chemicals applied at any stage of production. Its approach centers on building healthy, balanced soil by working with natural processes rather than against them. Organic farming methods are used to create conditions where pecan trees can thrive using their own built-in defenses against disease and insects. The farm's practices are verified by a third-party certifying agency against USDA National Organic Program (NOP) standards. Trees are planted, pruned, and irrigated to support long-term productivity across generations.
