Family-run Jersey and Guernsey dairy farm selling raw milk in Illinois.
Precious Pastures is a family-owned and operated raw milk dairy farm founded in 2014 by sisters Emily and Claire Plapp. What began as a 4-H project has grown into a herd of mostly Jersey and Guernsey cows. The business is a family affair: Claire and Emily are co-owners, with their father Adrian serving as farm manager, mother Debbie as bookkeeper, and sister Kendall handling design and media. Claire holds degrees in Dairy Production and Dairy Manufacturing from South Dakota State University, and Emily holds a degree in Food Science from Kansas State University. In December 2016, Precious Pastures became the third raw milk dairy in Illinois to receive a raw milk permit from the IL Dept. of Public Health, allowing for the legal sale of raw milk. Learn more on their About Page.
The herd consists of mostly Jersey and Guernsey cows with access to 6 acres of grassy pasture. Cows are fed oats and hay from a certified organic farm, and their feed is supplemented with organic minerals.
