Parker Creek Ranch is a family-owned working ranch that has been in continuous operation since 1846. Travis Krause, a seventh-generation farmer, grew up on the D'Hanis property; Mandy Krause is a fifth-generation farmer from South Texas. The couple graduated from Texas A&M University in 2008 with degrees in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences and brought that background to their farming work. The ranch's primary focus is producing grass-fed, grass-finished beef and lamb sold direct to customers as whole or half animals. Parker Creek Ranch adheres to a strict forage-only protocol for its cattle: animals never receive grains, grain by-products, or animal by-products. The land is chemical-free, with no synthetic fertilizers, weedkiller, or glyphosate applied to pastures. The ranch uses holistic planned grazing, rotating cattle frequently to ensure fresh grazing and adequate rest for pastures. Low-stress stockmanship principles guide all animal handling from the pasture to the processor. Sick animals may be treated with antibiotics but are immediately removed from the herd and never enter the food chain; no growth hormones are used. The ranch also sources cattle from cooperative producers in South Texas it has worked with for over a decade. On the land stewardship side, Parker Creek Ranch was awarded a Southern SARE (Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education) Producer Grant in 2018 to study deep soil ripping as a tool for water infiltration and soil conservation on its rangelands.
