O'Connell Organic Acres

O'Connell Organic Acres raises its cattle and sheep on certified organic pastures using rotational grazing. Beef cattle and sheep are 100% grass-fed, grazing on a mix of legumes, naturally growing herbs, and grasses from May through November, then fed organic hay grown on the farm through winter. Pasture-raised hogs have outdoor access around the clock and are fed a diet of organic grains grown on the farm, including corn, wheat, oats, and roasted soybeans. Chickens are raised in moveable hoop houses on rotated pasture, where they forage alongside cattle in a managed sequence designed to increase their access to insects. The farm features heritage cattle breeds (Devon, Hereford, Black and Red Angus), heritage hog breeds (Berkshire, Hereford, Large Black, and Gloucester Old Spot), and Freedom Ranger chickens sourced from Pennsylvania. Sheep are Dorper and Katahdin breeds, chosen for meat quality and their ability to shed coats without shearing.
