Regenerative Organic Certified heritage wheat farm growing stone-ground flour and whole wheat berries in the Arizona desert.
Oatman Farms is a fourth-generation family farm in Southern Arizona run by Dax and Leslie Hansen. The Hansens revived the property by cultivating heritage wheat varieties, including White Sonora, Red Fife, Blue Beard Durum, and Skagit 1109, grains adapted to desert conditions for over 300 years. The farm mills its grains on-site into stone-ground flour and also sells whole wheat berries, "just add water" baking mixes, wild-harvested mesquite flour, and pure vanilla extract. Oatman Farms holds Regenerative Organic Certified® status, USDA Organic certification through CCOF, and is a designated Slow Food® Farm. It also supplies wholesale accounts and participates in an Arizona school lunch initiative. Learn more on their About Page.
Oatman Farms is Arizona's first Regenerative Organic Certified® farm, a designation it holds alongside USDA Organic certification through CCOF. The farm grows heritage wheat varieties, White Sonora, Red Fife, Blue Beard Durum, and Skagit 1109, chosen for their adaptation to desert soils. Its regenerative growing practices are focused on building soil health, enhancing biodiversity, and conserving water; the farm states its methods use 60% less water than conventional wheat farming. Grains are stone-milled on the farm, preserving the bran and germ that industrial milling removes. The farm also wild-harvests mesquite for its mesquite flour.
