Family-run vegetable and flower farm offering CSA shares, a farm store, and a compost subscription service.
Nature's Roots Farm is a family-run operation on a 10-acre property in the Red River Valley, farmed by a fourth-generation farming family. The farm grows over 250 varieties of vegetables, fruits, and flowers, chosen for flavor and suitability to North Dakota's climate. It offers a seasonal CSA program running 14 weeks from June through September, delivering vegetable shares, hand-tied flower bouquets, or a bundle of both straight to subscribers' doors in the Fargo-Moorhead, Grand Forks, and Hillsboro areas. Products are also available à la carte through the farm's online store. The farm additionally runs a compost bucket subscription program, collecting household food scraps and returning finished compost to subscribers. Learn more on their About Page.
Nature's Roots Farm describes its growing approach as holistic and natural, with an emphasis on building healthy soil, encouraging biodiversity, and working with rather than against natural systems. Vegetables and flowers are harvested at peak ripeness. Food scraps collected through the farm's compost subscription are processed on-site through vermicomposting and the resulting compost is used to improve soil health on the farm, closing a loop between household organic waste and local food production. The farm selects its 250-plus crop varieties in part for resilience to the challenges of North Dakota's climate, including extreme cold, wind, and dramatic temperature swings.
