Native Hill Farm

Native Hill Farm farms to organic standards, using no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides and a soil stewardship program with crop rotation, cover cropping, and green manures. Close to half the growing space is set aside yearly for cover crops that build organic matter, and legumes are incorporated as green manures to supply nitrogen naturally. Winter greens including spinach, kale, salad greens, chard, arugula, collards, and mustard greens grow in unheated hoop houses that rely solely on passive solar heat, with no propane or external heating. Drip irrigation delivers water at roughly 90% efficiency, and the farm monitors soil moisture and local evapotranspiration to minimize water use. On-farm solar arrays, including an experimental agrivoltaic installation, power the packhouse, refrigeration, and farm stand. The farm also cultivates native pollinator habitat to support beneficial and predatory insects as a natural alternative to pest control.
