Organic, pasture-raised beef from dual-purpose dairy cattle in West Marin and Sonoma counties.
Mindful Meats is an organic beef company founded in Point Reyes Station that sources beef from dual-purpose dairy cattle raised on organic pastures in West Marin and Sonoma counties. Its model centers on cows that live full lives as organic dairy animals and, at the end of those lives, provide beef to consumers and institutions. The company focuses heavily on wholesale and institutional supply, including public school lunch programs and healthcare providers. In January 2017, Mindful Meats merged with Marin Sun Farms, with the Mindful Meats brand and sourcing program continuing within that partnership. Products include ground beef and raw beef patties, with an emphasis on using fine cuts for ground product.
Mindful Meats sources exclusively from dual-purpose animals: cows raised as organic pasture-raised dairy cattle that graze the pastures of West Marin and Sonoma counties for an average of six years. The cows are never transferred to a finishing lot or feedyard. During the off-season, they are supplemented with farm-grown silage, alfalfa, and hay, all certified organic. Any additional supplemental feed is DNA tested for GMOs. All pastures in the supply chain are certified organic. The beef carries USDA Certified Organic certification, Non-GMO Project Verification, and the harvest facility is Animal Welfare Approved recommended. A Mindful Meats team member is present at the harvest facility for each animal as a core part of the company's animal respect protocol.
