Certified organic vegetable farm offering a weekly Webstore and seasonal Farm Share subscriptions.
Mellowfields Farm is a four-acre, certified organic vegetable farm that has been growing food in Lawrence, Kansas since 2009. Farmers Jessi Asmussen and Kevin Prather lead a small, skilled crew with a focus on consistency and vegetables harvested for peak flavor and nutrition. The farm grows a wide range of seasonal produce, from greens and roots to summer vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, and cucumbers. Customers can order week to week through the Mellowfields Webstore or join one of three prepaid Farm Share sessions, each running ten weeks with Wednesday pickup or local delivery. The Webstore also carries products from a select group of other local producers. Mellowfields also supplies a small number of locally owned grocers and restaurants in Lawrence. Mellowfields Farm holds certified organic status, and its Webstore specifically offers its certified organic produce alongside clearly labeled products from other producers. The farm places an explicit emphasis on building soil health and operating at a scale that supports that goal. Jessi and Kevin approach farming as a long-term practice, prioritizing consistency and seasonal growing rather than volume. Farm Share boxes and Webstore orders reflect what is available each week, keeping offerings tied directly to what the farm is harvesting.
