McEwen & Sons is a family-run stone burr grist mill in Wilsonville, Alabama, with roots going back to 1978 when Frank McEwen Sr. and his father Ralph purchased Coosa Valley Milling. In 2002, Frank Sr. acquired a stone burr grist mill and began producing stone-ground grits from organic corn. His products quickly attracted the attention of notable Birmingham chefs, including Frank Stitt of Highlands Bar and Grill, who became an early customer. The mill is now in its third generation, with Frank McEwen Jr. joining his father in 2025. McEwen & Sons produces stone-ground grits in yellow, white, blue, speckled, ruby red, and blended varieties, alongside cornmeal in multiple grinds, polenta, self-rising cornmeal, rolled oats, popcorn, and coffee. All corn products, including grits, cornmeal, and polenta, are made from certified organic corn and are gluten-free, with no wheat in the mill.
