CCOF-certified organic farm offering CSA boxes, farmers market produce, and a seasonal pumpkin patch.
Luna Farm grows a diverse array of certified organic fruits and vegetables on the lush floodplain of the Eel River Valley in Humboldt County. Farmers Fred and Amy have worked the land together since 2013, raising seasonal crops nearly year-round, from heirloom tomatoes, corn, melons, and stone fruit in summer to brassicas, root vegetables, and culinary herbs in winter. The farm supplies a seasonal CSA, multiple local farmers markets, and also serves local restaurants, grocery stores, schools, and food banks. Fred, originally from Germany, comes from a farming family and is known locally for his kohlrabi; Amy specializes in historically significant varietals such as Dragon's Tongue flat beans and Fatalii peppers. Luna Farm holds CCOF organic certification, and all produce is grown without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. The farm participates in the Organic Seed Alliance, reflecting a focus on crop diversity and soil sustainability. Every vegetable is started from seed by hand, either in the field or in on-farm greenhouses. Fertility is maintained using only chicken manure, agricultural lime, or cover crops, with groundwater and dry-farming techniques used to conserve water. Planned crop rotation rests fields regularly, with the farm cultivating roughly twice the land in active production at any one time to support soil rebuilding. A minimal-till approach limits soil disturbance, with compost and cover crops used to enrich the land.
