Overview
Family-owned natural grocery store with organic produce, bulk foods, wellness products, and a Buyers Club.
Chautauqua Natural Foods is a family-owned natural grocery store that has been open since 1982. It is the only natural food store in Southern Humboldt and carries organic foods, natural wellness products, and sustainable household options across several departments: Grocery, Produce, Chill and Frozen, Wellness, and Bulk Herbs and Bulk Foods. The store screens products in every department for GMO ingredients and keeps its foods free of RBSTs, trans fats, hydrogenated oils, metabisulphites, and high fructose corn syrup. It also offers a Buyers Club that lets members place special orders for full cases at wholesale pricing plus ten percent through the UNFI catalog, with no membership fee required to join. A Chautauqua Rewards program is available as well. Learn more on their About Page.
The vast majority of Chautauqua Natural Foods' produce is certified 100% organic. On occasion the store also partners with local farmers to offer unsprayed and transitional-to-organic produce when available. The store prioritizes local sourcing across departments and carries products from local vendors, including locally grown produce, eggs, dairy, and meat when available. Products are screened store-wide for GMO ingredients, and in 2013 the Organic Consumers Association recognized the store as one of the top ten retailers in the Northwest region for its commitment to non-GMO foods. The bulk section encourages customers to bring their own containers to reduce packaging waste. Deliveries from UNFI arrive twice weekly to keep Buyers Club special orders moving quickly.
