Shakefork Community Farm grows organic vegetables and strawberries and raises pasture-raised poultry, turkeys, and eggs in Carlotta, Humboldt County. The farm runs a 21-week seasonal CSA (June through October) offering Garden and Family share tiers, with optional add-ons for extra greens, free-range eggs, and locally roasted coffee. CSA members can pick up at the farm or at several Humboldt County locations. Shakefork also sells wholesale through the Harvest Hub and appears year-round at the Arcata Plaza Farmers' Market on Saturdays, as well as the Fortuna Farmers' Market during the growing season. Shakefork Community Farm uses a team of oxen for field work, enabling permanent-bed, low-till cultivation that minimizes soil disturbance. Fertility comes largely from on-farm compost produced from the oxen teams' manure. The farm holds Certified Land-to-Market Regenerative status and is EOV (Ecological Outcome Verification) verified, with organic practices as its baseline. Pasture-raised poultry and turkeys are managed under holistic, multi-species grazing, moved with oxen power, fed certified organic feed, and processed on the farm. The farm describes its approach as going beyond organic to actively build soil, enhance biodiversity, and sequester carbon.
