Nonprofit community farm with a CSA, seasonal farmstand, pick-your-own fields, and farm education programs.
Land's Sake Farm is a nonprofit community farm operating as a registered 501(c)(3) organization. It grows vegetables for a weekly CSA program running June through October, a seasonal farmstand, and pick-your-own fields open to the public. The farmstand carries only locally grown or locally produced goods. Beyond produce, the farm offers hands-on education programs for all ages, from toddler and family programs to adult workshops and summer programs for school-aged children. It also produces maple syrup and manages woodlands through active forestry work. Since its founding in 1980, Land's Sake Farm has intentionally grown produce for donation; currently, 30% of its total harvest goes to local people facing food insecurity. Land's Sake Farm uses sustainable farming methods and avoids synthetic herbicides and fertilizers. Specific practices include low-till cultivation to retain soil moisture and structure, seasonal crop rotation to optimize nutrients and reduce pest pressure, cover cropping to protect and improve soil between plantings, and application of compost and mulch to support plant growth and conserve water. The farm also uses strategic introduction of beneficial insects to protect crops. When pest control is needed, it uses organic fertilizers and OMRI-certified pesticides. CSA pickups happen on the same land where the food is grown, reducing food miles. Everything carried at the farmstand is either grown on the farm or produced by a local small business.
