Iowa family farm offering seasonal produce, flowers, pumpkins, eggs, and CSA shares
Kroul Farms is a family farm south of Mount Vernon with roots going back to 1946, when Howard and Elizabeth Kroul began raising crops and livestock on the land. Today, the farm is run by their son John and his wife Kaylene, who have grown it into a seasonal marketplace. Kroul Farms plants nearly 20 acres of produce each year and has offered a CSA program for over 14 years, with the farm having more than 35 years of produce-growing experience. The 16-week CSA runs from June through September, available in full or mini box sizes, with weekly home delivery or farm pickup. Beyond produce, the farm offers cut flowers, pumpkins, eggs, firewood, wood products, and beef cuts when available. Customers can shop directly through the farm's online store or visit in person.
Kroul Farms grows its produce using crop rotation, advanced mulching techniques, and homegrown compost. The farm states these methods virtually eliminate the need for herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides. The Kroul family describes its approach as sustainable farming, and also makes use of natural fertilizers and cover crops as part of its land stewardship. Beef is raised from the farm's own herd and offered as custom quarters and cuts directly to customers when available.
