Kelly Homestead Apiary is a micro-farm producing raw honey, organic soy-free pasture-raised eggs, pastured poultry (chicken and turkey), fresh produce, honey bee queens and nucleus colonies, and handmade goods including beeswax candles, soap, and skincare. The operation began as a small homestead in Charlton, Massachusetts and has since expanded with a second farm location in Warwick, Massachusetts. Products are available through the farm's online shop, a farm stand, and CSA shares. Kelly Homestead Apiary follows USDA Organic Standards and incorporates Biodynamic farming practices, including attention to soil fertility and moon cycles. The farm avoids chemical treatments, synthetic substances, and heavy machinery. Hens are fed Certified USDA Organic, soy-free feed and graze on seasonal grass and herbs on open pasture. Poultry are raised on Certified USDA Organic feed and rotated daily onto fresh pasture using portable chicken tractors. Honey is never pasteurized, and the beekeeping operation is fully treatment-free, using no antibiotics, miticides, or pesticides in any colony. Queen bees are grafted from overwintered survivor colonies selected for Varroa mite resistance, and are primarily of Russian and Carniolan descent. Handmade goods are made using the farm's own honey and beeswax.
