Three-generation family apiary offering raw honey, bee pollen, beeswax, and bee-derived body products.
Grimes Apiary is a three-generation, family-run beekeeping operation founded in 1981 by Donald Grimes, who attended the Worcester County Beekeepers Association bee school and purchased his first hive as an agricultural hobby. What began as a single hive has grown into a multi-hive apiary producing raw wildflower honey and a full range of bee-derived goods. Products include raw and creamed honey in several sizes, honeybee pollen, honey-filled candy, beeswax blocks, hand cream, and lip balm. Grimes describes its approach as "from hive, to bottle, to you," keeping the process entirely in-house. Honey and other products are available at select local retailers, seasonal farmers markets, and through direct phone or text orders for pickup or shipment.
Grimes Apiary keeps its hives in Brookfield, MA and the surrounding towns, and all honey is produced from those hives. The honey is unpasteurized and raw, meaning it is not subjected to the high-heat processing used in commercial honey production. The business describes its honey as 100% pure and natural. Grimes operates on a direct, small-batch model: honey goes from the hive to the bottle without outside processing steps.
