Wagyu beef farm raising Japanese-breed cattle alongside heritage poultry, Mangalitza pigs, and farm produce.
Joseph Decuis Wagyu Farm raises the legendary Japanese cattle breed Wagyu, supplying its own fine-dining restaurant and Emporium in nearby Roanoke. The farm produces two types of Wagyu: full-blooded Wagyu and a Wagyu cross with Angus, both of which the business states exceed the USDA highest grade of Prime. Beyond beef, the farm also raises free-range hens (Dixie Rainbow and Naked Neck breeds), Mangalitza pigs, goats, sheep, turkeys, and grows herbs and vegetables. Private farm tours are offered for dining guests on Saturdays, and the farm serves as an event venue for weddings, corporate events, and other gatherings. Learn more on their About Page.
Joseph Decuis raises its Wagyu using genetics acquired from Mr. Shogo Takeda, a Japanese Wagyu Master whose husbandry methods the farm strictly follows. Cattle are raised in an all-natural, drug-free, stress-free, humane environment and finished on Mr. Takeda's special Japanese vegetarian diet. The business states that Wagyu takes two to three times longer to raise and finish than conventional commercial cattle. Farm facilities were designed in the Japanese style under Mr. Takeda's guidance. The farm operates on a farm-to-fork model, with its animals and produce going directly to the Joseph Decuis restaurant and Emporium.
