Four-generation California farm growing radicchio, Italian chicories, figs, and specialty produce.
J. Marchini Farms is a fourth-generation family farm with roots in California agriculture going back to the 1920s. The farm was founded in 1989 by Joe and Jeff Marchini, building on decades of Marchini family farming in the Le Grand area. Joe Marchini is credited as the original radicchio grower in the United States, introducing the crop after experimenting with Italian seed varieties in the 1980s. Today the farm grows a broad range of Italian specialty vegetables, including radicchio, Treviso, Castelfranco, frisée, puntarelle, lacinato kale, fennel, cardone, agretto, and fresh figs. Produce is available in bulk through suppliers and through the Joe's Premium retail brand, found in select grocery stores. A small selection of products, including olive oil and almonds, is also available for online purchase. Learn more on their About Page.
J. Marchini Farms falllows land and tests soils regularly to support long-term field health. The farm conserves water by using drip and sprinkler irrigation whenever possible. The Joe's Premium product line includes certified organic offerings alongside conventional varieties. The farm supports its workforce with fair wages, health insurance, work safety programs, and vacation pay.
