Family-run apiary producing raw, unheated, unfiltered honey from Southern California hives since 1979.
Honey Pacifica is a multi-generational family apiary that got its start in 1979, when founder Nick Poto turned a backyard beekeeping hobby into a honey business. The business produces raw, unheated, unfiltered honey in a range of varietals, including sage, orange blossom, avocado, buckwheat, and coastal California wildflower, along with flavored honeys, honeycomb, bee pollen, royal jelly, propolis, and beeswax. Honey Pacifica sells at farmers markets throughout Southern California and in retail stores including Whole Foods, Bristol Farms, Gelson's, and Pavilions. It was the first all-natural, raw, unfiltered honey product carried by Whole Foods. The business also runs a beekeeping education program for high school students through its Giving Farm initiative. Honey Pacifica moves its hives to various apiary sites throughout Southern California, allowing bees to forage different blooms and produce distinct varietal flavors. After the bees fill the hives, the frames are transported to the Downey warehouse, where an extracting machine removes the honey-filled wax. The honey is then allowed to settle so wax and raw particles float to the top and can be skimmed off. The result is never heated or filtered. The business uses the term Cold Packed to describe this process. Honey Pacifica has partnered with Solutions for Urban Agriculture, donating 2% of sales to support food grown on local farms.
