Husband-and-wife apiary producing honey, beeswax, and live honeybee colonies in Kansas.
AJ Honey Farms LLC is a husband-and-wife apiary run by Allen and Judy, who spent five years as backyard beekeepers before building the operation into a full business. The farm produces honey and beeswax, sells live honeybee nucleus colonies and packages, and offers crop pollination services and honeybee removal. Honey and gift items are also available through its Etsy shop. AJ Honey Farms collaborates with The Land Institute, placing hives alongside Silphium Integrifolium (Silflower) fields to support native pollinators and study honey as a passive crop from the plant. Allen and Judy have pursued formal beekeeping education through the University of Montana. Learn more on their About Page.
AJ Honey Farms extracts and strains its honey through a sequence of progressively finer screens: 600 micron, then 400 micron, then 200 micron. Beeswax is rendered using a steam-heated system. The nucleus colonies the farm sells are marketed as American Honeybees, with open-mated queens that produce diverse genetics suited to Kansas conditions. The farm also provides pollination services for crops including canola, sunflower, alfalfa, and cotton.
