Georgia's first certified organic farm, growing and sourcing certified organic produce since 1990.
Heritage Organic Farm holds the distinction of being the first certified organic farm in Georgia. The farm has been growing organically and sharing experimental results with fellow farmers since 1990. It sells organic produce grown on its own land as well as produce sourced from a network of other certified local and regional growers. Heritage grew the first certified organic peanuts in Georgia in 2004, and its farmer was named Land Steward of the Year by Georgia Organics Inc. in 2006. School groups are invited to visit for educational and hands-on activities, and interns are welcome to work at the farm. Learn more on their About Page.
Heritage Organic Farm operates without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, soil fumigants, chemical fertilizers, or genetically engineered inputs. It relies on natural biological systems for pest and weed control, and focuses on improving soil quality and fertility while protecting water quality and reducing soil erosion. The farm has participated in experimental grant work covering organic no-till methods, weed control, and farmscaping, opening its grounds to area farmers through field-days to share processes and results. All produce sold under its label, whether grown on-farm or sourced from partner growers, comes from certified organic operations.
