Overview
Family-owned farm offering pasture-raised eggs, organic poultry, pastured pork, seasonal produce, and a weekly CSA.
Hawkins Homestead Farm is a small, family-owned and operated farm specializing in pasture-raised eggs, organic poultry, pastured pork, and organic seasonal produce. The farm is Certified Naturally Grown for all produce and flowers, and is a proud member of the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP). It runs the Kith & Kin CSA, a seasonal program offering weekly shares of chemical-free, locally grown produce delivered to members' doors. Shares come in full or half sizes and can be paired with add-ons such as farm-fresh eggs, jams, jellies, and organic meats. The farm grows not only traditional Alabama crops but also less-expected varieties, and reserves select items exclusively for CSA members. Learn more on their About Page.
All produce and flowers grown at Hawkins Homestead Farm are Certified Naturally Grown (CNG). Crops are grown from USDA organic, non-GMO seeds and heirloom varieties; the farm also saves its own seeds and purchases only USDA organic seed potatoes and sweet potato slips. No synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides are used. Pest control relies on organic methods such as cayenne pepper and diatomaceous earth. The farm practices crop rotation with a focus on soil health, and composts scraps and chicken manure. Heritage breed laying hens free-range and are fed Non-GMO feed. Meat birds are raised on Non-GMO organic feed in fresh air and sunshine. Heritage breed hogs are pastured on grass and given a Non-GMO, soy-free feed ration. All birds and hogs also receive organic herbs, fruits, and vegetables grown on the farm. No antibiotics are used in animal care.
