Aquaponic farm growing organically grown produce, with a mission to employ and train adults with disabilities.
Grow On at AG Farm is an aquaponics operation in Bryan, Texas, started in 2013 by Sharon and Pat Wells. The farm's mission is to provide meaningful work and skills training for adults with disabilities, pairing agricultural production with job development. It grows organically grown seasonal produce across multiple greenhouses, including lettuces, kale, chard, sweet peppers, green onions, celery, Malabar spinach, microgreens, and herbs. Beyond produce, team members create aloe skincare products, tinctures, terrariums, handmade ceramics, knotted blankets, dried spices, and greeting cards. Products are sold in person at on-farm market days and through an online store. The farm also rents commercial kitchen space and offers scheduled tours. Learn more on their About Page.
Grow On at AG Farm uses aquaponic growing systems, in which fish and plants are raised together in a shared water environment. Produce is described by the farm as organically grown. Fruiting plants are grown in a compost medium and watered with natural nutrients through a drip irrigation system. To manage mosquitoes in the water systems without pesticides, the farm introduces mosquito fish (Gambusia affinis), which consume mosquito larvae before they mature. The farm states that produce is harvested less than 24 hours before it is sold. Environmentally friendly, sustainable growing practices are a stated priority across all production.
