Overview

Foraged jams, jellies, and syrups from an eighth-generation Black-owned family farm in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.

Getting Back to Nature, operating as Getting Back to Nature @ Martin Acres, is run by twin brothers Obiora and Irucka Ajani Embry on two acres of their eighth-generation, Black-owned family farm in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. The brothers grow and forage primarily perennial plants indigenous to Turtle Island, producing a range of value-added products from the farm's flora. Products include Hickory Syrup Dark (made from the bark of the Shagbark Hickory tree), Spring Flower Jelly, Wild Berry Jam, Sumac Jelly, Wild Flora Jelly, and baked goods. Obiora makes apple pectin from scratch in small batches for use in the jams and jellies that require it. Baked goods are made with whole grains, sourdough, and Weisenberger Mill flour, a sixth-generation Kentucky Proud mill. The farm also offers workshops, speaking engagements, consulting, and tours.
