Certified Organic salad greens and microgreens grown in soil by a two-person farm.
Generation Farm is a small Certified Organic vegetable farm on a forested hilltop in Concord, NH, started in 2012 by husband and wife James and Marley Stever. The farm specializes in salad greens and microgreens, with all growing, harvesting, and packing done entirely by the two of them. Seasonal greens include a rotating lettuce blend featuring heirloom and specialty varieties, arugula, baby spinach, and a mustard and Asian greens mix. Microgreens, including a pea, sunflower, and radish blend, are grown year-round. Generation Farm holds Certified Organic certification through MOFGA (the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association) and displays the USDA Organic seal. The farm uses no synthetic herbicides, pesticides, or fertilizers, and goes further by avoiding even the sprays permitted under organic standards. Soils are fertilized with naturally derived products and organic aged compost. Low-till farming methods are used to minimize soil disturbance, and most field work is done by hand with only a single tractor for bed preparation and heavy loads. Nearly all electricity is generated by an on-site solar array, and the barn is heated with a wood pellet burner. Over 60 acres of surrounding forest and wetland are left untouched to support wildlife habitat, and clover and wildflowers are grown in place of grass to support pollinators.
