Certified Organic vegetable, cut flower, and berry farm with CSA, farm pickup, and farmers' market sales.
Four Root Farm is a small, diverse Certified Organic vegetable and cut flower farm on 16 acres in East Haddam, Connecticut. The farm is owned equally by four farmers who began growing on this land in 2015, having previously operated as Darling Farm in Woodbridge, CT from 2012 to 2014. About five acres are under active cultivation with vegetables, cut flowers, and berries, including a productive stand of blueberry bushes and an apple orchard the farmers are rehabilitating. Produce and flowers reach customers through a choice-based CSA with on-farm pickup, weekly online ordering, farmers' markets, a Flower Share program, and a seasonal plant sale. Four Root Farm is Certified Organic by Baystate Organic Certifiers, meaning all produce is grown without synthetic pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. The farm builds and maintains soil health through crop rotation, cover cropping, and composting, and applies no chemicals or additives after harvest. It also holds certification from the Real Organic Project, an add-on label to USDA Certified Organic that provides additional transparency around in-soil growing practices. The farm has signed the CT NOFA Farmer's Pledge, which includes commitments to selling produce locally and regionally, reducing ecological footprint, and cooperating with neighboring farmers and the broader farming community.
