Forage Hawaii was established in 2016 with a focus on making locally sourced, responsibly raised proteins more available to Hawaii residents. The business began with a food truck and farmers markets, showcasing fresh-caught fish and wild Maui venison, before transitioning to raw meat distribution. It now sells a wide range of proteins including 100% grass-fed beef, wild venison, Mountain View pork, pasture-raised Big Island chicken, lamb, goat, wild boar, and day-boat fish. Products are available through an online shop with statewide shipping on qualifying orders, at farmers market booths, and for warehouse pickup. Forage Hawaii sources its beef, lamb, and goat mainly through Hamakua Meat Processors on the Big Island, selecting 100% grass-fed cattle from Big Island ranches. North Shore Livestock Ranch in Kahuku raises Hereford-Angus cattle using multi-paddock holistic grazing. These animals receive no feed beyond fresh grass and forage, and no antibiotics, hormones, or steroids. Wild venison comes from Maui Nui Venison, the only USDA-certified truly wild venison program, which sources Hawaii Axis Deer. Pork comes from Mountain View Farms in Wai'anae, where pigs are raised using Korean farming techniques focused on microbiome health. They are fed spent non-GMO beer grain, Moringa, and expired produce, with no antibiotics, hormones, or steroids. Chickens come from Punachicks Farm on the Big Island, raised on pasture in mobile hoop houses and fed organic certified grain and soldier fly larvae. Wild boar is USDA-certified, sourced from a feral pig harvest program in Waimea.
