Organic blueberry and avocado farm in Pauma Valley, growing fruit with USDA-approved natural inputs.
Fairfield Farms is a family-run organic farm established in 2003 by Carol and Bill Steed. The farm specializes in two crops: blueberries, available in spring, and avocados, available from late winter through summer. Fruit is grown using only natural ingredients approved by the USDA and OMRI, and sold at the peak of its season. Produce is packed in an on-site packing house with cold storage and quality-control standards, allowing the farm to bring fruit to market without shipping it to off-site facilities first. Fairfield Farms is a member of the California Avocado Commission, the US Highbush Blueberry Council, and the North American Blueberry Council, among other industry organizations. Fairfield Farms grows its blueberries and avocados using only natural inputs approved by the USDA and OMRI. The farm runs an on-site solar system that covers its energy needs, reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Water use is managed through a computerized crop management system that monitors soil moisture, water flow, and weather conditions to optimize irrigation. An on-site reservoir supports water conservation efforts. All packing, cold storage, and shipping preparation takes place on the farm, eliminating an extra transport leg for freshly harvested fruit. The farm holds membership with the Natural Resource Conservation Service and displays the USDA Organic seal on its materials.
