Forest-raised egg and heritage pork farm, home of the Appalachian Foothills Forest Eggs®
Drip Spring Hollow Farm is a 130-acre farm in Western Jefferson County, founded in 2011 and relocated to its current land in 2021. It is best known as the home of the Appalachian Foothills Forest Eggs®, produced by chickens and ducks raised on a free-range, forest-based model. The farm also raises heritage breed pigs, specifically Mulefoot and Kunekune, in a natural forested setting. Products available include chicken eggs, duck eggs, USDA-inspected uncured pork (bacon, ham, pork chops, sausage, and lard), herb blends, plant starts, and live poultry. Drip Spring Hollow Farm raises chickens and ducks in a forest-based, free-range system called forest-raised farming. Birds have daily access to trees, leaf litter, understory plants, and ground cover for shade, predator shelter, and varied foraging. Feed is carefully balanced, and light, temperature, and nutrition are managed to support hen health and natural laying, including seasonal rest instead of year-round production. Heritage Mulefoot and Kunekune pigs are raised outdoors in wooded terrain to root, forage, and express natural behaviors. Careful rotation and stocking density protect soil health. All pork is USDA inspected and sold with no nitrites or nitrates. Co-founder Britnie Niedermeier holds a BS in Animal Sciences and is certified in Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) and Pork Quality Assurance Plus (PQA Plus). Co-founder Alan Niedermeier is a Certified Prescribed Burn Manager with the Alabama Forestry Commission and oversees the market garden and land management.
