Kunekune pigs are raised on pasture with access to shelter, shade, water, and mud, and are slow-grown for flavor and fat quality. Because pigs require supplemental nutrition beyond pasture, they receive feed from a local mill that is corn-free, soy-free, flax-free, and non-GMO. No routine antibiotics or growth hormones are used. Dexter cattle are grass-fed and grass-finished on pasture using rotational grazing; no grain finishing, and no corn, soy, flax, or GMO feed is used. Hogs are processed at a USDA-inspected facility. The farm manages soil through rotational grazing, pasture rest, manure distribution, compost, and organic fertility inputs, with the stated goal of improving land health over time. Breeding decisions for both species factor in structure, temperament, mothering ability, and eating quality, with tenderness-related genetic testing used in the Dexter herd.
